Cidell asked me what I thought of Aretha’s hat.  Well this is why it was such a stunning choice.  Now just imagine that you are in the audience at this momentous occasion.  Imagine what those huge (12mm) Swarovski stones look like in the bright winter sun.  Imagine being so far away that you can’t actually see her, but you can hear that voice and the rhinestones are flashing in your eyes while she’s singing.   You cry because they are so bright and it hurts but also because of the emotion in the moment.   Aretha was the Statute of Liberty, her brilliant hat was her crown and the microphone was her torch.

  1. I loved the hat. It was befitting of the Queen.

  2. The Queen of Soul wore her crown beautifully. I hope it encourages others to wear hats. I just love them. I think Sister Aretha was perfectly dressed for her participation in this incredible event.

  8. Aretha is always sharp, but I love the allusion to the Statue of Liberty! How true that is. I thought she said “land where my father died” – not fathers – and that was emotional too. Being from the Detroit area, it made us all shine!

  12. I thought the hat fit Aretha perfectly. The first thing my 12 y/o said when Aretha stepped up was that she loved her hat then asked me who she was (lol)! Aretha ROCKS!!!!!

  13. Hi Els, Georgene, Phyllis, and Gigi:

I’ve nominated The Sewing Divas for the Kreativ Blog Award over at The Stitchery. You’ll can blame Liana who nominated me. But I know of few blogs more deserving to be recognized!

  16. Well being a milliner myself I of course thought Arethea’s hat was fab. It is a Jackie O pillbox with the classic bow affixed the diamonte chrystals are also a classic trim choice. I kind of wished that Michelle had worn a hat as well but I guess she’s not a hat person. Has anyone ever seen Michelle in a hat??

  17. Not only was Aretha and her hat amazing, but your description of her and her performance were also.
God Bless America, and everywhere else!!!
