Kelly, one of our friends here on Sewing Divas, posted to her blog a great photo of a funky primitive table made from vintage wooden sewing spools! You must go to her blog and scroll down to the bottom to see the photo. Very cool – the ghosts of sewists past are still with us.
Here in Australia there is a strong tradition of Bush furniture which was made out of Kerosene tins and any other waste materials which were found around a farm . This furniture is now highly sought after and fetches large prices . I am sure that the original resouceful individuals would be amazed at the value which so many place on their humble efforts . I love that table and yes the memories and the stories those spools could tell are really something to contemplate !! Mem

So glad you liked the table Phyllis. It really is intriguing; I keep wondering where it was found, and what it’s story is. It was priced as a “valuable collectible”, so it didn’t come home with me, unfortunately.
